In Recraft Studio, editing lets you change specific parts of an image while keeping everything else intact. This page walks through a recommended first edit, then briefly introduces other editing options. This method lets you regenerate only a selected part of an image using a text prompt.

When to use this

  • Change an object, detail, or background area
  • Keep the overall image composition the same

Steps

  1. Select an image on the canvas.
  2. Click Edit area in the top toolbar.
  3. Choose a selection tool:
    • Brush
    • Lasso
    • Area
    • Magic Wand
  4. Select the part of the image you want to change.
  5. Write a prompt describing the change.
  6. Click Recraft.
Only the selected area is regenerated. The rest of the image stays unchanged.

Other ways to edit images

Natural language editing

Natural language editing uses external models to make broader, semantic changes to an image. Best for:
  • Restyling an image
  • Changing mood, lighting, or environment
  • Making larger visual adjustments without manual selection

Manual editing tools

Recraft also includes manual tools for precise adjustments:
  • Move, resize, rotate
  • Layer ordering
  • Erase and cut tools
Best for layout control and non-AI edits. Learn more: Canvas and selection tools. Next step: Save and export your work.
